Okay so you are looking for your dream wedding photographer?

I am coming at you live today with some freaking TEA because we are about to spill aaaaall the info on consult calls!!!

First things first, what the heck is a consult call? Hopefully- the photographers you are chatting with are answering that question for you. But just in case- a consult call is the chance for you to get to know each other. It’s when you learn more about what it would look like to work together. And when you the chance to find out if you two really are the perfect match!!

This call is so important because it really is your chance to see if you and your boo mesh well with the photog. You get the chance to really ask all the questions about what is most important to you on your wedding day!!! But trust me, I know the feeling of overwhelm once you get on that call. So I want to give you my top 4 questions that I recommend you ask anyone that you are considering hiring as your wedding photographer!

What does it look like to work with you?

Okay, now as an actual wedding photographer, I’m going to be honest… this is a loaded question. So after asking this, be specific! What does the planning process look like with you? What is it like to shoot with you? What can I expect from you leading up to and on the wedding day?

I love to answer this question, because I truly do believe every photographer offers a different experience when clients invest in them! I even like to include a sneak of the MEC experience on my website!

Every answer will look different, and I’m honestly not sure if there is a right or wrong answer. But what I do know is that it is important for you to have that answer and decide if what they are offering is what YOU are wanting!

Are our photos safe with you?

Okay, we have ALL heard the horror stories… a photographer someway, somehow loses a couple’s entire wedding gallery. And sure, they give you a refund… but you don’t want a refund. You want your wedding images.

For example, I shoot dual card, just in case one of my cards fails or breaks. Then, as soon as I leave a wedding, I transfer all the RAW (unedited) images to a hard drive. And THEN, I put them on another hard drive when I get home.

This isn’t the only way to do this. But if you are going to be investing high dollar amounts in a photographer, you need to KNOW that they have a system that you can trust!

What package do you recommend?

Imma be reaaaaal honest… the photographer that you’re on a call with, should be doing this whether or not you ask. Like seriously.

Imagine going to your doctor, telling them all your symptoms, and then they ask, “So I take it you’ve seen our list of medicines, which do you think is going to best fit for you?”

HELL FREAKING NO.

You would expect your doctor to tell you what you need. And you should expect your wedding photographer to do the same. So if they don’t make a recommendation, ask.

Can you describe what a session with you looks and feels like?

This is the MAGIC question, sister.

At this point, if you’re even on the call, you know you like the photographer’s work. And hopefully on the call- you’re able to discern whether or not your personalities mesh. (Because I personally like to be BFFs with my brides 😉 ).

But this question will tell you so much more about the photographer, their shooting style, and what sets them apart! Every photographer is different and every approach is different. This question will truly help you distinguish the unique elements that each photog brings to the table!!

I so hope this was helpful for you, because girlfriend, you DESERVE your dream wedding photographer! I am such a big believer that your photographer should feel like a built-in-bestie who just so happened to show up with a camera!!!
